My little grandson has been keeping me pretty busy. I know this picture is a little fuzzy but it was so cute I had to share it. It is pretty hard to get computer time because this little guy always wants to play on the computer but the time I have had has been spent scanning some of my recently acquired collectables to reproduce them.

We have been busy making lots of faux vintage stuff for our Halloween party too. This yeas as always our theme will be "Vintage Halloween" All of my actual vintage collectables are placed on display but I do my best to reproduce everything I can to actually use. I just won an auction for some crazy awesome vintage Halloween collectables too! I am a frenzied mess waiting for them to arrive.

I know that I just posted an invitation but I could not help but post this one as well. When opened the witch will pop up!

I am offering it in color or in black and white. I just printed the black and white version on orange office paper. Just fold it up as pictured!

I am! so I am posting this free little Halloween party invitation! I just printed it on brochure paper. It is thin paper but has a matt photo finish so it looks like the professionally printed orignals...then I glued it to orange card stock and scored the fold lines... easy peasy! I just listed a little sheet of matching vintage repro fortune game place cards in my little etsy store too.

Where the heck have I been!... I know, I know! When I went to California to move my mom and sister to Idaho I thought I could get them packed and ready to go in two or three weeks... and I had this stupid idea that I was going to be able to post from there. Little did I know that they had turned into HOARDERS! Not the filthy type you see on TV but the pack rat type that has stuff everywhere. When I was growing up my sisters room was always decorated very minimal, neat as a pin. Mine was the huge mess... boy have times changed. I have tried to stay close over the years but a lot of day to day life is missed over the phone. I think they had at least 5 of everything and my sister did not want to let go of anything. We just could not move all that stuff! It was like pulling teeth to get her to put just one of each 5 into the donation box. I worked from the time I got up until the time I went to bed. The only breaks I took were to fill orders for my little etsy store. I even ate most meals as I packed. After about 5 weeks we were ready for the movers. When I got home I slept for about a week... literately :)) When I finally woke up I discovered while I was gone my computer mysteriously defunked. I had all my graphics saved to flash drives but I did not have my programs to work with them.... I got that fixed and then life got in the way once again.... baby watch! However things are coming together now... my mom and sister are here in Idaho, my computer is working and my grand baby was born today. Of course I had to post a picture of our new little JJ!

So I am back and I will try to make up for being gone over the next few weeks!

To start with I am posting this darling little baby graphic to celebrate the newest little member of our family.

Yes... I am still here in Idaho
The best laid plans... lol. Since my last post I was informed that my niece in getting married. So my sister and I decided to delay the move so we could attend. As much as I wanted to get this move over with I am at least home when my Peonies were blooming.

Not only that... check out this vintage fencing at a local antiques store and the bed rails at a local yard sale. Since my back yard is already has a wood fence ... what could I want that for! ¯\(°‿o)/¯
I have several projects in the works in my back yard. The vintage fencing is one and another one will be utilizing these windows we found on Craigslist. I will be posting more on that soon too!
And since I am loving my beautiful blooms, I thought I would give you some too! I think these would be lovely for a summer garden and would work great for Valentines too!

Eagle Fun Days... NOT!

Things have just been crazy around our house, with getting the after winter yard work done and moving my studio to make room for my sisters arrival there just has not been time to breath but we had our grandson Saturday so we took the day off and went to the Eagle Fun Days. OMGosh I will never go again!!! I had expected it to be similar to the Emmett Cherry Festival and as I said... NOT. First of all we arrived and could not get within a mile of the place. But having promised our grandson a parade and carnival poppa put him up on his shoulders and we made the long trek to the parade route.

With my feet already killing me we watched there dismal excuse for a parade. It was a total joke consisting of Firetruck, Ambulances and nice cars. There was a couple of clown cars from Zamsows and a helicopter car and lots of acrobatic troupes followed but a bunch of kids with super soakers wetting everyone down. But our grand baby is 3 so he didn't know any better and he had a blast. We consoled ourselves with "that is what counts"... lol

Then there was the carnival. It was over a mile away from the downtown area where the food court and their few vendors were... so another long walk. It was located on a vacant dirt lot that was covered with goat heads. Seriously, the soles of my shoes were covered solid with them. It also only had about 8 - 10 rides and a "midway" of a few games. Each ride cost about $2.75 and it took them over 5 minutes to load the ride then they ran the ride for only 1 minute : / Quinton was only big enough for 4 of them and I even had to ride one or he could not get on... so I squeezed my rather large "blank,it,e blank" onto the obviously too small seat so he could ride. Quinton however was delighted, he had no concept that grandma paid over $5.00 a ride so he could ride each one twice...lol

Tell this kid it was a disaster! Still.. if you are in the area, my advise is to skip "Eagle Fun Days" it is too spread out with no parking. Just save your money for the "Emmett Cherry Festival" the following week. I would have but I am leaving for California so I don't think I will be here. I will miss it though. All the kids in our family usually but the wrist bands so the cost is cut down quite a bit. It has a cute little parade that goes right by a lovely tree covered park were all the food booths, vendor booths and carnival is located and it has lots of parking. The entire thing has twice as many food booths, carnival rides and venders and the cost is just about the same.

This came from a very small Victorian die cut. There printing techniques were not the greatest either. It doesn't really meet my usual standard of quality although I did touch it up as much as I could. But it fit the theme and if you don't try to print it too large it should work for a lot of things. Just out in Somerset Gallery is an article on Steampunk Birds. Several months back Lynn Stevens of Trash To Treasure Art hosted a play day in her lovely studio. Several friends got together for a day of artistic bonding, wonderful mocha lattes (made by Lynn's wonderful hubby) She hand carved us all a bird blank to start with and we went from there. It was a wonderful day and one I will always treasure!

This is my bird... I really think my pictures are better than the magazine :)) but they were trying to get all of them at there best angle so that makes it a little harder to photograph.

Our article did not make the the preview so I made a little preview for ya! ... Enjoy!

The snow has melted but it was an unusually harsh winter. The little gnomes in Inkaland were feeling a bit dreary.

So I took them shopping and bought them some new outfits and then we spent the day doing a bit of spring cleaning... we even gave our front doors a makeover.... yes... I think we are ready for spring.

I am so excited to see everything green and blooming! And once again happy little gnomes tidying things up.

Serving Up Silver Platter Paper Dolls

Did you know you can have yourself made into a paper doll? I have not had these listed for some time but just decided I would list them again. These are dolls I did of some of my friends sometime back but I just made some new sheets that you can steampunk any paper dolls with so I used them. This is such a fun idea... Just because I used my paper dolls you really can use any paper dolls.

I just love tarnished silver and I have been looking for ways to merge my art with my decor! Anyway... every time I see a piece of old silver plate in one of the local resale stores... I just have to buy it! Since I don't have a lot of storage in my little house, I have started to just put it on the walls.

Recently I discovered that magnets will stick to some of them. You do have to be careful though, not all silver plate platters will accept magnets. It depends on what base metal they were made with so test them before you buy them. Here are a few ideas I have come up with to give them a little more pizzazz. I have use the magnets to attach old photos and papers, I have added magnetic hooks to hold my jewelry

Or how about hanging scarfs on those hooks!

and now of course... I am dressing them up with paper dolls.

I just added some magnetic strips to the back of my dolls and instant steampunk decor! These are kinda a grown up version however this would be such a fun way to decorate a little girls room too.

I colored them with watercolor crayons and then added some printed graphics from some of my other collage sheets to steampunk them out. I also added some real gears, feathers and chain to give them an additional layer of interest.

Well after Alice went home, life went on in wonderland. One day while Mr Rabbit sat having his tea, a lovely bunny happened by wagging her tail oh so enticingly. Well before you knew it Mr Rabbit had settled down and even had a couple babies. As you all know babies change everything! Soon Mr Rabbit was taking the youngsters to the park, coloring eggs and yes even hiding the eggs, rushing to the bushes to hide while the youngsters searched for them... he had done what he vowed never to do... turned into his father... the Easter Bunny! Here he is now with his family ready to get dressed for Easter Sunday then follow up with some relaxing in the park
I thought these would be fun for artwork but also to stick in the kiddies Easter baskets.

DIY Vintage Bohemian Chic Bedroom Printable 4 Paper Dolls

I hate to keep repeating myself but just for any new followers I will... lol. I lived in a Victorian home in California for 20 years. At that time I love Shabby Chic, but as I aged so did my love of color. When we moved here several years back, I decided for the first time in my life that I wanted new things. We had a house built and I bought the main furniture new. I still had a few old pieces that I just could not give up but I thought I could mix them with the new and come up with my "style". I just felt like I was living in a hotel, so I looked at my art (since that is what I love) and noticed that I just love things that are earth tones, old, rusted, tattered and worn. Looking around the net I discovered what I really wanted was something between Steampunk (Victorian with a futuristic twist) and Vintage Bohemian... I think I am leaning more toward the Vintage Bohemian.

I had a ton of those vintage pink rose shabby chic sheets in storage... just not my style anymore. So I got out my bottle of brown dye and went to work. They came out more of a mauve than they did brown but I still loved them. I think they totally look great on my bed and I really feel I have captured that Gypsy feel with the mix of textures and colors. I also had not realized how much I missed the feel of those vintage cotton sheets... there is just nothing like them :)

The Count's Castle Yes it does include, A free printable Paper Doll

I have been working on this for some time now. I actually started the graphic's for it last year. I had wanted to do it for Halloween but time flew by and I knew I was not going to make it. So I started a Nutcracker theater, thinking I would have time to get that done before the Christmas season. Well that did not happen...lol

So off season or no I tend to work on my holiday projects year round because as you know by now, if I don't then it doesn't get done :)) I am calling this one "The Counts Castle" but I do intend to make some completer sheets for it in the future. Then it can be dressed for "The princess and the pea, Sleeping Beauty (a friends idea) and yes of course Haunted Halloween! It also might be a fun place for Marie Antoinette and her court to live.

For those of you who have purchased the digital kit from my little etsy store, I also wanted to do a quick rundown on how I made it. I started with an old jewelry box from the local thrift shop. Then I cut a hole in the top. I left this kinda big so that it would be easy for little hands to maneuver the puppets.

Then I covered the box with the brick paper also in the kit. My box measured 7 inches high and 10 wide so the background paper was longer than the interior wall. Instead of wallpapering it to the back and bending it around the corners, I bowed it and just glued it in along the sides. I loved how it gave it a real theater feel.

I did the puppets, facade and the towers as I always do. I printed them on brochure paper but you can also use a light weight photo paper. Then I used spray glue to attach it to a medium weight matte board. You can purchase medium weight matt board at your local office supply store or just use the light weight gift boxes you get at the dollar store. Cut all the pieces out and sand the edges with a emery board..the heavy ones for artificial nails.

I curled the towers up and attached them to the sides. You can make them more pliable by pressing it against the corner edge of a table, in a sawing motion move the tower from side to side and it will start to curl, then go ahead and roll it into a tube. This way you will not get any wrinkles or bends in the matt board. Be sure to use a marker on the edges of all you pieces too. That way no one will see cut cardboard on the edges. If you do it right, it will be hard to tell it from a die cut image.

I have used some little wire puppet stands for display but if you check out the bottom of the picture you will see that we use little wire puppet wands for "The show" :) Don't forget to put a tab on the back of your doll to hook your wand to.

I know how you all love my little articulated dolls and I thought this little doll would go well with the theater. She would make a kewl witch too, but I am sure you will find something to use her for. Be sure to click on the little thumb above and save the larger printable.

Just me and my art, tutorials and free printable

Well I guess it is back to "All about me" :)) and things around this house has been just crazy. I did get this frame done and I am also adding a tutorial on how to make authentic looking cab cards below and a free printable to start you off.
The about me part, I have had company for the past couple of weeks and the last of them went home on the 3rd. Whew I thought! My son called me the next morning and told me my beautiful little grandson was sick. It did not look to serious but he was taking him to a doctors appointment. I told him to call me and let me know how he was. Shortly later my son called again and said that the little guy had Fifth disease, a virus that most children get. Between the time he had called me and the time he got him to the doctor he had broken out in the most awful red rash and even some blisters. So he had it to a more severe degree than most. It is not a virus that will really harm him as it will run it's course but if his momma who is 4 months pregnant contracted it there was a risk of significant harm to the unborn baby : / The doctor said it would be best if our little guy and his momma stayed in separate houses... sooo I have a sick little guy for the next week and his momma is in tears too since she can't be there for her sick little one. My son has been running back and forth between the two houses but each time he goes home he has to shower so our little momma doesn't catch it. I just keep saying "Gosh what next!" ... lol

How about how to make authentic looking cab cards!

First you will need to print your image (and you can use the one below) on semi gloss brochure paper. Then you need some light weight matt board, like the white gift boxes you can get from the dollar store. Oh yes, you will also need a can of craft spray glue.

Cut out the image you are going to use for the front of the cab card and spray glue the backside. Stick it to the light weight matt board and let that dry. Cut out the image you are going to use for the backside leaving about a 14 inch extra around the edges. Spray the backside of your image with glue. Then lay the image already on the matt board onto a light box or hold it against a window so you can see where the edges of the card will be. Align the front image with the back image. Once dry using your already cut out image, cut the matt board and the backside image to match the front.

Use a heavy emery board to sand the edges and round the corners.

Use an ink that matches the print all around the edges also touching it here and there direct to the paper on both the front and the back. Then blend it all with a blending solution or a blending pen. Since I had used a laser printer, I could just use alcohol.

I also bend it here and there and bang the corners to give them the look of having been handled through the years.

I placed mine in the frame above with some originals and as you can see it is difficult to tell the difference.

I had so many tell me that it made my blog load slow or they could not figure out how to use it. Wow... this week has come and gone! I wanted to feature two of the entries ... The little cabinet that had the rabbit on the bicycle painted on it by Amy over at "Art From The Heart" and Fairy Theater 1. I just could not choose between the two!

I love the Fairy Theater 1 by Jo Anne Webster. Now she doesn't have a blog so I hosted her photo for her.

And this little cabinet with the painted bunny is so yummy!!! I am at awe how Amy was able to turn a little black and white image into such a stunning little work of art!

I am offering my Music Hall Theater!
This little theater was designed from a famous Stage Curtain that was hand painted by Philip Goatcher in the early 1900's. I have created graphics to give it the dimension that the painting depicts and I have added even more dimension by layering the same graphics onto chipboard and creating layers of the architectural details. I mentioned Flaunt Friday would be fun to do yesterday and I had really planned on posting and announcement with the little ATC that I did this week. However I had a couple of you that sent me your links so I thought I would do a trial run :)) This is my first time using the linky ..... next time I will make the little thumbs a bit bigger. I really hope this takes off as it would be so much fun! I know this is going to sound silly but I get such a feeling of completion or er validation to see my artwork become a little piece of someone else artwork. To know that my art has reached into the far corners of the world and influenced some one else art :) I guess I feel it is a legacy that will live on beyond me :)

I made this little ATC with my new steam punkers collage sheet, if you click on the picture it will take you to a close up of just the card. I made the little holder at Christmas time. I had planned on sharing it then but the pictures went missing with my camera. I used a little antique candy mold and turned it upside down, then I glued a the piece that holds the candle from a candle holder to that. Hubby bent me the rusty wire and then I tied some vintage fabric and trims around the bottom.

Tarnished Treasures

You may remember this photo from Christmas. I am only re-posting it as a before picture. My house is a small house but most the rooms are open to the rest of the house and the living room/ dinning room area has ridiculously tall gable ceilings so it doesn't feel as small as it is. The problem is all that blank wall up there ↑

So in the dinning area I have a set of cabinets that I use as a "sideboard" and above that hangs an antique print of roses that I love!
Above that is lots of wall!
I had this ridiculousness small iron scroll hanging there but it just looked lost with all that wall above.

So last week I got to digging around in the cupboards and collecting what ever I could find that was silver and this is what I came up with. Some of the pieces had some tarnish already but I think I will like it much better when it has had time to really darken.

First I laid them out on the floor. I moved things around until I came up with a design I liked. Then I took a picture of it so I could remember how it had been laid out.

Then I used the command mounting adhesives to stick them to the wall. Three of the pieces are footed so I had to use Herculie's hooks to attach them.

Vintage Valentine Paper Doll Postcard Printable

I had this old earring holder but it had been designed for the old clip on earrings and it was very unstable. It had just a wire tripod for the bottom. So hubby used the cutting blade on my dremel to cut slots in it to accommodate my pierced style earrings. Then I used the base of an old candle holder to give it some stability.

and all those old parts.............

Well they became my new bracelet holder.

We drilled a hole in the little silver coaster to hold rings and the bracelets that did not hang well and then used old parts from a candle holder and some dead clocks we took apart.... very steampunk kewl!

Free collage Sheet, you say??? Get on the list!

First I want to say that no, this is not going to become one of those ad blogs!

However I hate posts with no picture so I would also like to share my new collage sheet "Steam Punks" ...arnt they cute!!!

I would also like to take a moment and answer some frequently asked questions and put in a call for all artists that would like to get a free collage sheet by making some examples using my collage sheets.

I know Christmas is over but I am still makin a list :))

Just put your name on the list and when I make a new collage sheet I will send a free copy to the name on the top. That artist will then make a couple of examples and email me a picture of there work to use alongside my examples on my etsy site. That's it!

If you see a collage sheet in my etsy store and it has no example, you can request that sheet.

Once you have received your free sheet, your name will go to the bottom of the list and you are then eligible for another sheet when you get to the top of the list again. If you want on the list you must Email me because so many times I have tried to answer a post only to find it is sent to noreply. As soon as I can figure it out, I plan to post the list so that you will be able to keep track of where you are on it.

Question I often get are:

Can I sell artwork made with your images?
Yes you can! Anything you print and include in your art piece is yours to sell!
However they are not to be included in any digital download for your customer or blog reader to print.

Can I use your images in my digital art?
Yes you can and if you are printing it you can even sell it. However please do not offer a free printable download of your art. A small example version posted to your blog or website is totally fine :)

Your images look like they are vintage images so aren't they copyright free?
I know they do look like it and I do use vintage images to create my images. A few are totally vintage images but most of my artwork have major changes and have been changed enough to retain there own new copyright. For instance, I have used a person from one image a background from another, maybe a tree or car from another. If you noticed, unless it is a holiday postcard, most of my "vintage postcards" have no greeting. I have done this so that you can add your own greetings to fit the piece you are working on.

Why are your downloads so large?
I create my images from original scans at 300 dpi so on a computer screen they make look very large. However if you use the "fit to page" settings on your printer you will get a sharp clear image. Because they are in .jpg format you can also use your photo program to resize it to just about any size you like.

New Year, New Day, Old Loves

and now I have decided to go back to old things :))

I think I have mentioned before that I had an antique store in California for years... and hubby and I bought the home I grew up in and we lived there for over 20 years... for me it was an additional 20 years :)) ... it was totally Victorian shabby chic... anyway when we moved to Idaho, I sold a lot and put a lot in storage. I decided for the first time in my life that I wanted new things. We had a house built and I bought the main furniture new. I still had a few old pieces that I just could not give up but I thought I could mix them with the new and come up with my "style" At first I just felt like I was living in a hotel. Then slowly I starting putting things on the walls and trying to make things look like "normal" people.... Well I am not "normal" people and I just have not been comfortable.

Over the past year or so my art has been drawn back to my love of all things old... only rusty and worn rather than the white and pink of shabby chic of my past. I found that when I was working on my art pieces that I was happy. My love for rusty and worn started to drift into the other rooms and it made me happy :D So this year instead of fixing the place up, I am going to be wearing things out, rusting things up, adding my art to the rest of the house. I think the best description of the style I love is "Tarnished Treasures" So if this interests you, click "Decor or Tarnished Treasures" on the "Quick Links" on the right hand sidebar. I will link the few projects that I did last year and as soon as my new camera arrives I am going to start snapping pictures around the house and giving you a run down on the how too's

So sorry... I have had a house full of people for the holidays and I have lost my camera. I had wanted to get a lot more done than I did but as they say "Better late than never".

Stocking Stuffer printables for Christmas

I had so many fun things planned for Christmas that I have not been able to get to with my Mom here needing so much help. My sister is not going to be able to make it here for Christmas this year because she has to work :( She is going to be all alone this year for the first time. When I last talked to her she said there was no since in even putting up a tree just for herself so I am sending her Christmas in a box...
Included is a sparkling Christmas place mat, a Marie Calenders turkey dinner, a tiny version of our traditional Christmas cake, A Christmas tree, our childhood Santa and presents including that little rag necklace and earrings I made for her.

Oh ... and here is a close up of the necklace and earrings I sent.

It features a soldered centerpiece, vintage ribbons and lace, a vintage rhinestone button, vintage flat crystal beads and some other reclaimed jewelry parts.

So I was doing a bit of grocery shopping and found this little advent calender and it was on sale...but just not my style...so what to do?....Alter it :))
Well I was just getting the finishing touches on it when I saw that the "Created byhand Challenge" was Christmas Countdown! So of course I had to entry mine :))

First I wanted to show the before... but I forgot to take a picture of it before but here is one I found on the internet.

I tell myself that I did this for my little grandson Quinton but really I think it is just as much for me. I can't wait to see and share the countdown with him! A tradition I hope to carry on for many years to come.

I loved this one.. it from an old magazine print by Thomas Nast

The sheet music is just something I put together as is the Christmas text done in an old newspaper style

For this one I took some old sheet music for "Angels we have heard on high" and dressed it up. The holly story came from an old book and it is not in the picture, however it is on the right side of the calendar and it wraps to the back. I then filled the rest of the back with the text sheet. That way even though the text is covered with graphics on the inside you can still turn the calendar around and read it.

I did not put a copyright notice on these since they are full sheet printables but they are copyright Alteredartifacts and are for your personal use only. They are not to be included or used in any digital downloads of any kind. You may use them on any project you actually print them for and you do have the copyright permission to sell any of those hand made projects.

Faux Putz House Ornaments

Boy am I getting this in just under the wire! This weeks Theme over at the "Created Byhand Challenge" is Snowmen...Aren't these cute! This was also my project for my local art group "The Artistic Souls" this month too.

I used the pattern from Better Homes & Gardens and then I used some of my digital collage sheets that I offer over at my little etsy store. I did shrink them to 50% before I printed them so they would fit on my little houses.

Free Thanksgiving Printables

Ok... I have been MIA for a while when it come to the challenges I love! I think I mentioned in a previous post that my mom had taken a fall. Well when she was released from the convalescent hospital she was still not able to be alone in the house. Since my sister that lives with her works, she needed to come to my house until she can get around. It was quite the ordeal getting her up to Idaho from California and another ordeal getting my house set up to take care of a handicapped person....but we are getting settled down and I should be able to get back to my art soon :) Because of all of this I was not able to get the Thanksgiving sheet I wanted to create up at my little etsy store and since it is almost Thanksgiving I thought I would offer a few of my favorite Thanksgiving images.... Now how was that for a run on sentence :))

More Rag Bracelets

Since these were made for friends, I wish I could have posted these last week for the Created by Hand challenge. The theme was friendship/love but I had to wait unit I had a chance to give them to there new owners. I actually had made another black one but I did not get a picture of it... drats! I had needed a last minute gift so I used the first one so I got busy and made the black one yesterday. I am so distressed now that I look at the picture I realized I forgot the beads on that one : /

They are all made with hand dyed fabric's and ribbon, antique buttons, lace and soldered charms. Most were dyed in the standard dye method but I did the gray with the microwave method. It was the first time I had used that method and for such a small amount of fabric it worked so great!

Winter Gothic Arch Banner... Free Printable!

When I saw the inspiration project by Nancy on the Gothic Arches challenge and the them was "text" I knew instantly what I would do. Tattered Cuff Bracelet

It is that time of year that I am working on stuff but I can't show it because my projects are going to be Christmas gifts. So this is a sneak peek and some of what I have been making. This one went to the beautiful Lynn of Trash to Treasures for her Birthday. It is made of vintage fabric's, trims and buttons. I did use a few new beads and a new clasp but I don't think it took away from that vintage feel.

She has been through so much the past few weeks that I was just going to stop by for a minute and drop it off however she was up and around enough to answer the door and invited me in. Her hubby (bless him) made me the most wonderful mocha latte and I was lucky enough to be able to sit on her lovely patio with her and visit for a little. If everyone can send there prayers... or if you don't believe your positive energy her way as I know no one more deserving. We are just all so fortunate to have her still with us :)

Dark .... 4 Blissful ATC 's

With the theme this month being "Dark" over at the Blissful ATC Swap. I went tip-toeing through the murkiest part of the dark woods.... and what did I find there! All things creepy, crawly and scary! There were spiders and bats and things that go bump in the night! I was afraid so I put what I found on these little ATC's and sent them off to my partner DeeDee so she could get the shivers too! I could not decide which one to send so I just had to send them both. I just did not think they should be separated! At least this way they could comfort each other when the lights went out at DeeDee's house :)) Do visit my partner DeeDee 's blog because I think she took better pictures than I did ....lol

Now for a peek at the darkest thing I can think of .... The picture is scary enough so I hope I don't really see this guy !!! ..............besides my soul is already taken 0;-)

The layers are amazing! The bloody frame really seems to drip! and I love how she used torn cardboard for the background. Where the paper is missing gives so much depth and texture too! I just love this spooky treasure! He will be joining the Halloween section of my little ATC binder.... but wait.... that was not all! I also got the most stunning card! If you could only see it in real life! There is an amazing tea bag fold on the front of it and I could not capture the texture it has in the photo! Thank you so much DeeDee! I feel so honored to have met you and will look forward to the next time our names meet on the swapin list.

There is just something special about having a vintage Halloween party! We like to have several leading up to the big day as well as the blow out on Halloween.... I would never want to dampen the excitement of the moment by constantly babbling on about being careful of the vintage papers... so I reproduce everything! ...lol. My originals stay safe and the kids have a great time!

Fairy Art .... Altered Art Light

In my opinion "Altered Art" is when you take something the original creator considers finished and artistically alter it to your personal style. Sometimes you can give an existing piece new life giving it a totally different use and sometimes you can give it new life with the same use. I love mixed media pieces too but they are not Altered Art if you the original creator.

Ok... so my piece for this weeks Mixed Media Monday is an "Altered Art" fairy lamp.

My dear friend Carolyn Summers knows how I love fairies and she saw this little fairy at a recycle sale she knew it was perfect for me .... Thank you so much Carolyn. When she gave it to me we talked a little about how to fix a couple of little flaws and I said I would come up with something :)) Finally I did!

Before

I wanted to use this in my bedroom so I started by using some wood stain on the dress and wings to make it fit into the color scheme I have there. Then I used alcohol ink on the wings and sealed it with a clear matt finish. I then tea dyed one of those shabby chic white rose sheets and tore little strips gluing them on to fashion a little dress for her. Some of the petals on the daffodils had been chipped so I covered them all with moss and added some tiny paper roses. I totally love her now and she looks so beautiful in my bedroom!!

Gothic Arches has gone to a two week challenge... I don't know how I missed the last one, I guess I just got distracted by life but I am trying to get back on track :)) So here is my entry for the Day and Night challenge.

It may be daytime but I think they are thinking about the night :))

I used the printable below and layered it on some textured and hand made papers. Then I stamped the little "Sunny" stamp from Scroll Works on acetate and embossed it with midnight embossing glitter. The little stars are embossed with silver embossing glitter and it is also from Scroll Works. Then I made the "Twinkle Twinkle" heart with the word program on my computer.

Gentleman ... MMM Buttons

This week over at Mixed Media Monday the theme is buttons. I know it is suppose to be Mixed Media Monday but I can never seem to get things done by Monday so I am always late. I just don't work that fast. By time the theme is announced it takes me a few days to get my artwork done.... but here are my buttons!This is truly a noble effort ... another piece for my bathroom. I started with a smashed leather toiletry case.

The poem in the mirror reads

A gentleman in every way,

In just the latest style

The watch case features fabric with news and map print that has been dirtied up with a little rust, a brass leaf branch, a top hat from a monopoly set, a brass harmonica charm, a rusty spring topped with a brass treble cliff and the typewritter of "H" for Heaton.

Yep ... that is my hubby in the rusted picture frame... a much younger version I must admit. He is much older and rustier himself now :))

Remember this post Steampunk Ladies Free Printable ?... and that little teaser picture of the project I made with it? I have so been wanting to post about my project but I had submitted it to a magazine. So I had to wait until I found out if it would be published. Well the preview of Haute Handbags for Autumn has been posted and my little clutch is in the preview! .... I am published!!!

I thought it was perfect timing that this weeks theme at Mixed Media Monday is "I have been wanting to..."

The Artistic Souls of Eagle Idaho submitted these little bags that we altered... I called my little Steampunk bag "Time Traveler" My hubby and I glued old gears and bent wire to a matt board then I used my friends spellbinder to emboss the metal. Then I attached it to the little wooden purse and antiqued it.

I printed the fabric for the lining and added the little photo of the Steampunk ladies.

The hinge was hand made using links from an antique necklace.

Well I will tell ya ... they are all over at Gothic Arches because the challenge right now is Daisies. The little daisy fairy in my entry is happy now as all the daisies in her garden are blooming but summer is over and soon the cold weather will arrive...then my little fairy will be shivering again until spring arrives once more.

Steampunk Heaven

Yes ... I have died and gone to Steampunk Heaven! This is the first two ATC's I have made with my new stamps from Scroll Works When my daughter in law called me and told me that her new plate of steam punk stamps came in, I jumped in the car and headed right over. I think I am the first to get to stamp with them too! I had specially requested the new gear stamps and the men. I am so excited that she chose Jules Verne because he is one of my favorite authors! Of course my favorite ATC of the two features him. I call it... can you guess... "Collaborators"...lol. I made it so that it opens too and one of the little gears works as a latch to hold it closed. If you click on the picture it will take you to a larger version that will also show it opened. Do click on it so you can also get a preview of some of the other new stamps I used on the inside! The other one I am going to call "Staying Sober" It features my new male love interest :)) who on this ATC is struggling with the call of the "prescription bottle"

Detail Note:
I also wanted to point out the difference you can get with different papers. The ATC on the left is stamped on card stock so I got a really crisp image where as the one on the right is stamped on a page from a very old book. Same ink but it bled into the paper and created a more photographic look.

Saving Grace .... from a garden chill maybe

Sorry I am so late this week, my mom fell again and it kinda distracted me : / anyway... the theme this week at Mixed Media Monday is "Cool it down" . I am not much on blue so this teal is about as cool blue as I get... I do think this is really kewl though :)) and in real life the teal looks much lighter.

I am also entering this int Alter It Monthly for the September "Rust" theme.

I thought that I could use in in my bathroom. I have an old smashed shaving case that I am working on for in there too. The chain on the purse hangs from the back side of the purse so I intend to hang it on the wall open. Then I can use it to hold things I use everyday like my brush, comb and hair clips.

I rusted the frame and chain then used an image from my new "nicely nudes" collage sheet and printed it on fabric. She is nude in a garden so she must be cool :)) I covered it with cracked mica and used an old belt buckle for the frame. Then some antique lace and vintage brass and rusted metal findings finished it off.

I have said this before... I just kept looking at it and feeling it was not quite done. I am honorable at taking things apart and redoing them.

Eye Candies from the Artistic Souls Free Printable Cutie Pie too

I have lots to share today! Once again we had our monthly meeting of the Artistic Souls of Eagle Idaho :) What a treat it was to visit with such special friends! Barb made the most wonderful lunch and then we snacked on goodies as we created the eye candies that I am sharing today!

I will start with my challenge this month, now I brought these with me to the meeting.... I was to make ATC's from a Magenta's Charming Little Girls stamp. The looked like little windows so of course I had to give them a house. I covered the chipboard houses with real antique papers that I took from an antique ledger ... I actually scanned that and offered it as a free printable too. If you missed that it is here. Then I used wavy copper tape for the roof and a copper metal file tag for the window. Of course I have to age everything...lol so I used some aging solution to darken the copper. The rest of the stamps... florals and wording are from Scroll Works. Oh and that reminds me ... you really should visit there. She has a new steampunk sheet of rubber stamps due in any day... but she has them on her website. I had to order every one... lol.

Then we all brought a shoe box with a project... so the cards to follow I made but they were projects brought by members of the Artistic Souls.

My shoe box project was this cute little ATC ... It was done by coating real score sheets from Word Yahtzee with watered down paint then stamping and adding the letters from a travel scrabble game. The little cutie I used is the free printable and you can find her at the end of this post :) The crown is from my hats sheet at my etsy store

This is the shoe box project brought by Judy Johnson ... Don't you just love that! She had just taken a Tim Holts class and shared the distress ink technique. That is how the background was done. The stamps I used are script and outlined leaf are from Hero Arts The oak and maple leaf are from Rubber Stampede

This one is the shoe box project brought by Barb Crowell... our fearless leader :)) Her card came out much better than mine. However I don't have a picture of her beautiful card so you will have to settle for my crooked version. We stamped velum with the fern leaf from Stampin up then it was sliced and woven ... mine was straight then I messed with it and got it all crooked : / anyway ... then we stamped the crane from Judikins cut it out and applied it to the front. I just love the serene feeling of this card!

Carolyn Summers brought this fun little daisy punch card. The stamp in the center is from Scroll Works.

Then this is the project Merine Heberger brought. The stamp is poppies from Hero Arts We stamps red on red cardstock and then brown on a cream card stock to create this beauty!

Seeing Red...Not :))

I am seeing red as is everyone this week over at Mixed Media Monday. I can't wait to go blog hoping and see the red everyone else has been seeing too. I hated missing the challenge last week but I had company and just could not get to it :(

My entry is a little book box covered in handmade red paper with an attached bookmark magnet. I sandwiched a piece of roofing tin between the cover paper and the matte board on the lid so the bookmark would cling to the box yet be removable too. The stamps used are from Scroll Works
and if you would like to make one of these little book boxes or maybe a whole library of them, the pattern is available in my etsy store :)

I love the way the curve on the faux pages curves to make it look like a real little book!

I have had a house full of company this week and I am afraid I missed the challenge over at Mixed Media Monday :( I started my project but was unable to get it finished before our company arrived.... I will post it when I finish anyway. I am crossing my fingers in anticipation of this next weeks theme, hopefully it will fit with it too :))

However I did receive some spooky fun ATC's from Wendy over at Blissangles I thought it was a one for one swap but to my surprise there was three :/ Thank you Wendy! They are fabulous and will make such a special addition to my collection!

This is the one I sent... It is a little Kissing Booth. I used my "Spooky" theater collage sheet and an image from my "Trick or Treater's" sheet and both are available at my little etsy store I will get a couple more made and sent too :)

Blisful ATC's Orange

Recently I joined the "Blissful ATC Swap" ... there link is now on my left hand sidebar... anyway my first swap there so I hope that it is ok to post these. The theme was "Orange" and below is the ATC I sent to my partner Laura It is done on crinkled tinfoil with Dresden foil trim. The dance hall girl is layered on an orange feather and her dance costume was glittered. I finished it off with some leaves stamped with "Dance" and a little metal corner scroll. It was really hard to get a good picture because the reflection off the glitter and the foil but then I always think they look better in real hands

This is the one that Laura sent. I have seen several felted ATC's online but this is the first time I have seen one in real life...what a treat as you can see! It too was hard to photograph and this picture really doesn't do it justice at all. It also had a really cute little backside but my camera ran out of battery by time I got a good one of the front. I do love it and will treasure having it in my little ATC collection

Doesn't this little guy look like an undertaker! ... I thought he would be perfect for a little Halloween ATC ...or I guess it could just be a spooky steampunk ATC... either way at the heart of this little undertaker is the cross :)) He is on my new "Graveyard Party" collage sheet available in my little etsy store

I don't usually do religious art but I must have been in a "high spirited" mood today :)) This is for a door swap I am in and it just went in the mail so I hope the recipient isn't lookin :D

Queen of Diamonds... Gothic Arches Crown

I know this is a lousy picture! I know it is summer but here in Idaho it is raining! ... I know .... raining!

So the lighting is not good and when I tried to use a flash the "diamonds" reflected it too much... it had to have natural lighting. That meant outside : / so I put the umbrella up on my patio table and this is as good as I could get. I actually made this for a friend. I tease her all the time calling her "The Queen Of Diamonds". The bottom piece is actually a huge pin I want to give her. I punched holes for the pin to go through to the back side but it is removable.

Remembering The Butterflies

When I was a child there were no video games. We had to actually do things to keep ourselves entertained ... lol. I grew up in Cambria California... we lived in the woods in a log cabin but we were also just a mile from the beach so there really was a lot to do. When we were not at the beach we were running through the walking paths in the woods. One of my most favorite memories is when the butterfly's would migrate and the woods would be filled with them. It is one of my most precious memories that I will always treasure!

The week the theme over at Gothic Arches is Owls. I am not too much on owls but I have been playing around with Halloween stuff lately.

I used a trick or treat sucker card for my background and then my witching hour owl clock. I put real watch hands that had been salvaged off an old watch that I had taken apart for the gears. The little witch is from a new sheet of dark fairies that I should have in my little etsy store soon.

Counting My Blessings

Today was our local meeting of the Artistic Souls and I feel so truly blessed to be a part of this wonderful group. It was such a lovely relaxed day of visiting with good friends. We had the most delicious lunch in the beautiful garden of our lovely hostess this month. That was followed by several hours of creative fun. If you have read any of my previous posts then you know we have an ongoing challenge. We all bring a stamp, each taking a turn with each others stamp until each person has had a chance to create swap cards with each stamp. Recently we decided to do ATC's instead of cards and I am just thrilled with this change as I have a chance to grow my little ATC collection.

It was my turn with Carolyn's purse stamp from PSX. I decided to make it look like a Victorian mail order sample card. I used graphic's from the old Strawbridge department store. I printed the background then stamped the little purse on it. Then I added a little swatch of tapestry. I felt it needed a little envelope so I continued the theme using more Strawbridge graphics and adding a little more stamping. The remaining stamps are from Scroll Works

Play Things ...

This week at Mixed Media Monday the theme is Play Things. Having grown up on the central coast of California, I spent hours and hours on the beach playing with sea shells and beautifully polished stones. In fact the first craft I remember doing was making pebble people for every visitor that came. Our family was large and living in a resort area they took turns visiting often. Needless to say I made lots of pebble people. Our house was always full of people, laughter and love. All the stamps are from Scroll Works ... my favorite company :))

Wedded Bliss for Something Blue

This is the last week of the wedding theme sayings over at Mixed Media Monday and since I have done nothing with a wedding theme I did this little wedding card. I also did this one because I wanted to share a technique I have been playing with. Crackle paint can be so expensive but this is a Fun inexpensive alternative to crackle paint and glaze.

This easy technique is done with cheap Elmer's school glue ...really any cheap white glue works, I even tried the stuff from the dollar store. I discovered glue crackle on the internet but found the explanations very limited. I not only wanted to crackle paint for backgrounds but I also wanted to crackle clear glaze to use on my images. As hard as I searched I found nothing on crackling clear glaze.... sooo I did a lot of experimenting with different glues and glazes and found that the cheep white school glue works best for this technique. There is no difference if you use the clear or white. Most any water based glue will work however Mod Podge doesn’t work at all

To crackle paint:
Step1.
Using acrylic paint, choose the color you would like your cracks to be and paint the surface of your project. Let it dry completely. This works on wood metal paper and even cloth. If your doing this on paper you can just use unpainted card stock in the color of choice so just skip this first step.

Step 2.
Cover the painted surface with glue. The thickness of the glue will determine the size of your cracks. A thin glue layer will result in a fine crack, the thicker the glue the larger and wider the crack. For a very fine crack it is best to thin the glue a bit. I found using my hands worked better than a brush for spreading on the glue. You have to work fast... I got a more even coverage and I was able to control the thickness of the glue much easier. It also eliminated brush marks.

Step 3.
Do not let the glue dry completely. It must still be tacky if you want it to crack. For thin glue let it dry about 3 minutes and for the thicker glue about 5 to 8 minutes. Once tacky cover the surface with Acrylic paint. Again I found using my hands worked best. The cracking starts pretty quickly and it is really fun to watch.

For a clear crackle over an image
Step1.
It is done much the same, cover the printed surface with glue. I used a lazer print. I think the ink would run with an ink jet image. Again, the thickness of the glue will determine the size of your cracks. A thin glue layer will result in a fine crack, the thicker the glue the larger and wider the crack.

Step 2
Once the glue is tacky, paint on a clear water base varnish. I used the Delta Ceramcoat satin interior varnish. I also tried several others and they all worked well.

I enhanced the cracks for my example because they did not show up great in a photo. However on a small image with a face your cracks may not look so great enhanced. I had to do the image above several times before I had an image where the bride did not look like she was crying ...lol. In real life the cracks are really visible without any enhancement.

Something Borrowed

The theme this week over at Mixed Media Monday is something borrowed so I am posting a borrowed piece of Art. This little doll is called "Here's my heart" and it was created by one of my students. She has it listed in her Etsy shop. Since she has so many grandchildren she worried that they might damage her so she asked if she could leave it in my studio until it sells... As much as I hope she sells to encourage my student and friend..I have to say I will be sick when she does as I have come to love her so much... I just might buy her myself if she doesn't sell soon :)

Mixed Media Monday New Old Bottle Labels Perfume & Pharmacy

I know these look old but they really are some new labels I made. I did use the information from an actual French pharmacy label to create the pharmacy label and wording from a vintage French perfume label for the perfume label. I added some soldered elements to the perfume bottle but if you don't solder try tying some ribbon or vintage lace on your bottle. I thought it would be a fun project for Mixed Media Monday this week.

Steampunk Gothic Arch Necklace

This is for the open theme at Gothic Arches again I am a little slow this week. I am still having trouble with my teeth... it has been an ordeal because I have TMJ from a car accident so badly that is slows the amount of time the dentist can work in my mouth.... anyway enough excuses :)) This was hard for me because I have always been such a neat and clean solderer. For this I needed to muddy that up :)) I also aged it by adding a layer of mica for the top layer instead of glass. The back is glass and it has a layer of antique newspaper. I suppose it could be worn backwards but the rhinestone would be upside down. The little side oval pieces have antique tatted lace between glass. I used the free printable that I offered a while back so if you scroll down to past posts you can grab it.

I made these little fabric flowers some time back but since I was feeling a little under the weather I thought I would take a new picture and use them for this weeks Mixed Media Monday. The theme is floral tributes so I decided to make mine "Ode To The Squirrel"

Once upon a time ....

In the land of Gothic Arches there lived a little fairy princess. She longed to one day wed but in the land of her birth there were only girl fairies. One day her fairy god mother stopped by and saw that the little fairy princess was so sad. "Let us go on a glorious vacation" she said. "This will cheer you up" So with a flick of her magic wand they were off, whirling across the sky. Looking down fairy godmother saw a beautiful green island and knew instantly this was where they were to vacation. They landed in a beautiful circle of trees and it looked as though it had been made just for them.... hmmm... I wonder..... anyway as the day wore on they became sleepy and fell into a deep sleep. Suddenly they were awaken to the sound of a beautiful harp and and yes ...it was a male voice singing softly in a deep Irish brogue. The little fairy princess could not believe her eyes! There before her was the most hunky guy and he had wings!!! "Are you a boy fairy?" she asked "Certainly not" he replied... I am a sídhe ... which could loosely be described as a ...er...a boy fairy...but in the most masculine of ways" . The little fairy princess fell into giggles and into love. Long story short they were soon married and lived happily ever after.

Our Reigning Family King

I just had to share this darling picture of my grandson. Taken at Norwich castle on a recent trip my son and his family made to England. This goes to prove that my little grand baby is the King!! .. in our family anyway :))

They have really taken some awesome pictures of medieval doors and gothic windows. I am going to share some for background images soon.

Eyes Wide Open...

This week the theme at Gothic Arches is Openings. I think this theme could go in so many directions and I can't wait to blog surf the list and see what everyone has come up with. For mine, I think my title says it all ... I started with the large face stamp from Scroll Works but I only stamped the eyes. Then I chalked the skin tone and added feathers at the top. A piece of a broken necklace made the headdress and a heart shaped gold paper doily for the collar. Some ribbon and beaded trim finished it off.

This week over at Mixed Media Monday the theme is Personal Symbols and Myths. Wow does that leave it wide open. Your suppose use a theme or symbol that you use a lot in your art. It did not take me long to figure out what symbols and them was. First of all I use a swirl stamp from Scroll Works on just about everything... you can see it in the background and then I love fairies so they are in about 80% of everything I do :))

Marie At the Theater

This week at Mixed Monday Monday the challenge is Marie Antoinette... I love Marie Antoinette. Another thing I love is that to play over at Mixed Monday Monday you can do a card or you can do an assemblage or maybe a fabric collage or... or... a... THEATER :)) and you all know how I love theaters. So this week I did Marie and her court at the theater. I really only did the little puppets for it because I already had the little theater done but I mounted them on some chip board and then glitzed them up with some glitters, feathers and some tiny rhinestones.
